Sticky post: Welcome! and about me

*EDITED May 19, 2014.*

Hello and welcome to my journal!  Here, you will find my thoughts on my J-POP and K-POP fandoms.  J-POP fandom basically means Arashi.  As for K-POP, a lot of my older articles are about TVXQ and as of the editing of this intro post, EXO is what I am into and you can expect to see some EXO posts coming up in the near future.

Since I am not too technology-oriented, you will rarely see picspams or videos on this site.  I am rarely up to speed on my fandoms and timeliness is not a driving concern.  I can guarantee you it will not supply with you with any new information on any group.  In short, it's a rather useless journal :-D.  What it does contain is lots and lots of analysis.  You will see me wonder out loud about pretty much any subject, be it interpersonal relationships, music, acting, dancing, looks, and so forth.

In terms of "rules", there are none.  A pre-friending message is always very nice and welcomed, but I don't care if you friend me without saying a word.  So friend away, but I don't friend back by default (my friend page is too long to begin with), so if you want me to friend you back, please tell me so.

Random comments are always welcome and highly appreciated, so comment away!  In addition to English I speak French, Japanese and am learning Korean now, so if you would rather comment in one of those other three languages, go for it.

Well that's it for me.  Thanks for reading!

yukopon i'm sorry i laughed when i read the first few sentences because i thought you were putting up some singles ad!!! XDDD AHAHAHHAHA ごめんね!!!

but it's nice to see an update from you that makes me smile (i do appreciate the dance posts but i think some of the technicalities are lost on me X_X) and even though i know all this about you already i'm still really happy to see your declaration of love for arashi once more. YAY.

i really hope to meet you in japan, somehow! if you go, you HAVE to tell me.

and this:

I am 173cm (5ft 8 inches) tall and about average build, though long-limbed and big-breasted for an Asian. My hair is styled in a bob (about jaw length), and is black. I have been told many times I look like the Japanese/Chinese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro (don't know his chinese name, sorry!). I think I do look eerily like him, especially his eyes. My voice is low enough that my mom thought I was my dad once. T_T

every word is so precious, somehow. hehe. (HUGS)

you do kind of look like takeshi kaneshiro. XD his chinese name is 金城武, of course. XD Jin Cheng Wu. just read out the characters and that's about it. heehee.

ha it's funny you say that my dance posts are not your favorite. i in a way feel like i need to write those because i feel it's the most concrete stuff i can contribute XD but people more often say they are a fan of my ramblings so maybe i will just ramble more freely from now on. and dude i saw your cartoon with your outfits for the wedding. how did you make yourself a cartoon???

I have said this before, but I am a huge fan of your ramblings. Frankly, I'm surprised you don't have huge mobs of people friending you because I was nervous enough wondering what to say the first time I commented on one of your posts. I am planning on minoring in French in college, and I think it's cool you speak fluently the two languages I want to learn the most (French and Japanese)!

Well anyway, just wanted to encourage you to keep your insightful observations coming because I for one enjoy them immensely. =)

Aug. 2nd, 2009 04:18 am (UTC)
<3 <3 <3 awwwwww thanks so much. you are too kind. it's awesome you are considering minoring in French. Having a degree in a language is really useful because it's an easy way for people to get an idea of your level in a foreign language.

i promise to keep ze ramblings coming for my few and faithful fans <3

(sorry for the unnecessary number of hearts in this post. your praise just tickled me pink <3 ugh there i go again...)

I do. I really do appreciate your ramblings. It's the only place where I feel it's 'ok' to write something in return and fangirl about Arashi. In the past, I've tried voicing my thoughts out on a random Arashi forum and was deemed "too serious". I didn't know whether I should be embarrassed that I fangirl about a boyband at this old age, or feel indignant about being snubbed by sixteen year olds because of the way I think and write.

Anyway, I didn't know there were kinds like me until stumbled upon your journal. I realized only I have you bookmarked, but I hope you don't mind me friending you now :)

And since it's only fair to tell you a little bit about myself instead of stalking your journal like a weird person... I'm also a type A Virgo, except I've become outwardly type O nowadays. My first bachelor degree was in Industrial Design and I'm studying for a second bachelor degree in Graphics Design. I love nerd-ing over music and dance, but am not talented in either one, well, I'm interested in the fine arts in general. Oh, and I'm a Chinese-American. I'm not exactly bilingual since my Chinese isn't anything to brag about- just on the normal conversational and casual reading and writing level.
Aug. 18th, 2009 02:04 pm (UTC)
Hey sorry for the late reply! I know what you mean about feeling indignant about being snubbed by sixteen year olds. I haven't had that experience on LJ (almost everyone I've met have been extremely mature and civil - I guess I know which areas to lurk around) but a lot of my comments on youtube get the thumbs down. I suspect most of them are adolescent Japanese girls (my English language posts never get the thumbs down) who just cannot bear to hear anything remotely negative about Arashi. Sigh.

Wow, you are getting a second bachelor's degree? Is that another 4 years? May I ask, why did you go for a second BA instead of a Masters or a PhD? Just curious. I also love the fine arts in general. It's funny because Arashi is about the only Pop music I listen to!

thanks for commenting on my journal so often! it's nice to have had this "get to know you" conversation!

You know, I was sooo nervous when I first commented one of your posts... just like the person somewhere above me... I know that I've said this a gazillion times before but your ramblings = pure win. They're fun to read and point out all the things that I notice but don't know what it is that I'm noticing, if that makes any sense...

Anyways, I lol'd at this line "But it's really things like the Secret Talks and the general ridiculousness of Mayonaka no Arashi, D and G no Arashi and Shukudai-kun that I really love about Arashi." because I think I've baited my youngest brother into semi-liking Arashi due to the craziness that's happened on D and G no Arashi and Shukudai - kun XD
Aug. 18th, 2009 02:10 pm (UTC)
sorry for the late reply! And yay for baiting male siblings into the Arashi fandom! My dad likes Ito Yuna (i know, don't ask) and so I sat him (and my mom and little brother) to watch the Shukudai kun episode when she appears as a guest. My parents were both like "they stuff their faces too much, it's bad manners" (especially Ohno sigh) but when Aiba and Yuna did their Hula thing, they were laughing genuinely and I was like YESSSSSS. I mean still doesn't mean they like Arashi or actually care about them, but the fact that Aiba's awesomeness is not lost on 60-something year olds was very encourgaging. XD

My brother and I were watching the Himitsu episode when Yonekura Ryoko was a guest and they thought Nino's "popping a dislocated shoulder back into the socket" move was hilarious. I didn't so it was interesting just how funny they (especially my brother) seemed to find it. Oh yeah, I made my brother watch the gyakukaiten shogaibutsu kyoso on (i think) D no Arashi and he was laughing like crazy at that too. I am incorporating Arashi anecdotes into normal conversation, so my family know a fair deal about arashi at this point XD

i've been lurking for awhile but decided to leave a comment after your last post. like you, i'm a japanese american, wearing two hats, both japanese and american. i'd lived in japan before, but now i'm firmly entrenched back in the states. lately, life has been busy and i neglected the japanese side of the house till it got to the point where i'd be standing there holding some random object in my hand and wondering, "dammit! how do you say/write XXX in japanese again?" in an effort to regain what i'd lost, i started trolling youtube and mysoju to get back in touch with my japanese self. that's when i discovered arashi and indirectly stumbled onto your blog.

like you, i'm a bit too old to be a squeeing fangirl (okay, i squee, but not where anyone can hear me.) i love reading your posts; they're intelligent and well-written!! (although i probably enjoy your 下ネタ系 posts the best -_- ) and i totally feel you when it comes to balancing grad school, having a life, and worrying about a future career! been there! 応援してます!がんばってください!!

Re: hajimemashite!
コメントありがとうございます!返事遅れちゃってごめんなさい。日本語と英語、どっちで返事しよう。。。I'll switch to English for now (since it is the universal LJ language) but feel free to comment in Japanese if you wish. I sometimes want to write in Japanese because there are things that just can't be expressed well in English but out of respect for those who can't read Japanese, I stick to English. I find it amazing and wonderful when people who don't even understand Japanese become Arashi fans so I want to do everything I can to encourage them and further their understanding of the 5 most fantabulous dorks ever.

when and where did you live in Japan? My mom's side is from Tokyo and my dad's side from Kyoto, so those are the two cities in Japan I actually know my way around. I don't really have an 田舎 to go back to since my family are city dwellers.

and you went to grad school? in what, may I ask? I am up to my eyeballs in recruiting right now and it's so stressful. Sigh. But as long as I have a good job waiting for me after I graduate, it's all good.

Hello! It's my first time here at your journal (barely an hour!), and I think it has already opened my eyes a lot. I really appreciate your liberal and insightful comments about things that I have never noticed before, or rather, never really made an effort to. Also, I like it that you point out little facts and flaws in Arashi's concert lives/ varieties shows/ etc, which may not seem obvious to less experienced and younger fans such as myself, as I find that most fans, myself included, have a tendency to take and view things on its surface, instead of delving deeper and finding those things that are also really worth seeing.

My knowledge is generally limited, so I don't really have a broad range of topics to talk about. I'm a 15 year old Singaporean student (I'm Chinese), studying in a normal secondary school. And well, I have to confess that I'm a new-found fan of your posts now. :D

Hi there! Yay new readers! I am always flattered when people find my ramblings interesting, so thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment! Since my real life is so busy right now with school and recruiting, I can only post sporadically, but I hope you'll check in once in a while and see what I am up to. My best LJ friend is Chinese Singaporean too! It's so cool to get to meet people from around the world. Ah, the wonder of the internet. Anyway, nice to meet you and hope to see you around!

Hello, person who leaves awesome comments on my fic! I really appreciate those btw, and ever since I popped over here I've been pretty impressed cause I don't often (okay, close to never) see such lucid, spot-on fandom posts. I would like to read what you write on a regular basis and since I'm so bad at keeping up with different LJs, I hope you don't mind if I friend you. :D Chinese Singaporean too!

hello, person who writes awesome fics that make my day a hell of a lot brighter.

of course i don't mind you adding me, and i added you right back! It's so funny because my best lj friend is Chinese Singaporean too. Her username is oviparous. I wonder if you know her.

I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hello! I've been lurking for awhile, but when I finally gave in and decided to get an LJ, I felt like I should leave a comment here. I'm sure you get this a lot, but your posts on Arashi are really awesome. I always get a kick out of reading them!

Btw, I was just wondering if you are shin-nisei? I'm a JA too (well half, my other half is Chinese) and a shin-nisei. My Japanese American friends don't really follow Arashi for silly reasons (something about how it's "embarrassing" to be a fan of a JE group) so it's really refreshing to meet a JA that enjoys talking about them. Aside from that, I'm finishing up my undergraduate studies, and am going through the typical worries about what to do with my life after school. I probably will try to earn a masters in public health. Anyways, I can't wait to read more of your posts! :D
Nov. 12th, 2009 07:13 pm (UTC)
thanks for commenting and welcome to LJ! There is no turning back now....*evil music*

I am not aware of what a shin-nisei is (I imagine you mean 新二世 but I don't know what that means). I am not really well-informed about the issei, nisei distinction, but my parents are the immigrants and I am the first to be born in the U.S., so I think that makes me a nisei?

I know the whole embarassment about following JE - I think it's because it is so typical and not at all different or unique. Plus they are boybands after all. But in Arashi's defense, they are not really standard JE fare, which i think is why so many people like Arashi even while they very much dislike JE in general (I am one of them).

So you're finishing up undergrad! i remember how scary that was haha. If you ever want advice on post-college life, feel free to message me anytime. I imagine most of the Arashi fandom and your real life friends are your age or younger, so it might help to have an older (but not necessarily more mature!) point of view.

Thanks for commenting, and I hope to see you around!

Did you just change you introduction? ^^

I am now interested in Japanese language. I really love learning the new language but avoid Japanese in the past because I think it would be too difficult. (No matter how much I love The Gospellers and how good I am in learning German, Chinese.) However, as I addicted to DBSK/Tohoshinki, I would love to learn some additional language and I tend to love Tohoshinki stuff more than DBSK...so Japanese is my choice.

Hope one day I will be able to write the comment in Japanese.
Mar. 1st, 2010 09:34 pm (UTC)
haha yeah i did change my intro. It was getting kind of old and felt outdated, so I decided to axe it. I also wanted to reflect my interest in DBSK.

i love learning languages too! What is your native language (people speak so many languages around here so i never know). Japanese is apparently the hardest language to learn from an English speaker's point of view, so if your native tongue is English, then... best of luck!! lol. I am teaching it to someone now and I never realized how damn complicated it is as a language.

hi! omg I am so sorry my response is so late! the notification for your comment must have somehow slipped through my inbox...

haha i am glad that your mistake led to something that you ended up enjoying. i have a lot of lj friends from singapore~! It's so cool to get to meet people through LJ that I would never have run into in real life. haha I am starting to sound like Aiba-chan.

i can't post often but please be patient, and thanks for commenting!

Just adding you as a friend because I like reading your analyses of things (even if I don't agree with everything). Recently have become a fan of Arashi (was a fan of DBSK for much longer). Have to agree with you about Arashi's singing and dancing. Still, they're very charming and I love watching them on they're variety shows.
May. 13th, 2010 05:11 am (UTC)
Hi there! Thanks for commenting and for telling me you don't agree with everything I say. I am not being facetious - my biggest pet peeve is when fans get so blind about things that they take any disagreement as a betrayal.

And yes, charming is a great word to describe Arashi. I love them on variety shows too, they really have a talent for entertaining.

I hope to see you around again and thanks again for commenting!
Aug. 23rd, 2010 05:32 am (UTC)

I found your blog a while ago and went about scrolling through your entries, Arashi and DBSK alike. You got me back into checking out DBSK, not gonna lie; it's been a while since I've cared about them. Thanks for being so critical of even your favourites - I love it when fans don't love blindly *___* And not everyone has the guts to post their opinions as baldly as you do, which I admire too! Even when I don't agree with some of it, I still like reading a defensible account.

I'm adding you as a friend so I can read your updates! I really like your analyses, especially when you get to the technical bits (even though we all know that Asian popstars and classical techniques aren't exactly, uh, applicable.) I tend to get a bit analytical on my own posts as well, so it's good to see that I'm not the only one 8D

Good luck with your studies! I must work hard on mine too...

hi and thanks so much for the long comment! i appreciate that you understand that criticism does not mean dislike, since on other forums (like youtube), my comments often get the thumbs down since i write something other than OMG junsu oppa saranghe~!! lol (he's not my oppa anyway XD)

i've been a bit hesitant to write in my journal since my arashi craze has cooled a bit for the moment, and there is very little happiness going on in the dbsk fandom, and as a rule of thumb i don't want my journal to be a place where i dump my frustrations.

so until i find something happy to write about, my journal might remain quiet. My personal life is pretty hopping right now but who cares about that XD

anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to comment and i hope to see you around!
Aug. 23rd, 2010 05:24 pm (UTC)
adding your for the pure kick I get of reading your posts. I you don't mind?

I'm threading carefully into DBSK just because people say they're good but my beating organ leans towards the 5 money making machine in Japan right now... so there you go....
Aug. 25th, 2010 01:56 pm (UTC)
hi there and thanks for the comment! i am kinda surprised that new people are finding me since i haven't posted in like a year o.0

i am hoping to change that since my life should calm down a bit soon.

DBSK is really great but it's sort of a sad point to enter the fandom since they are no longer active... but don't let that stop you; i got into them after they filed their lawsuit and it hasn't stopped me from loving everything i've seen (except the negative, messy bits with the contract and everything).

now that i am not in japan, i might get back into arashi since in japan they are so popular that you get a bit sick of them.

Aug. 24th, 2010 02:54 am (UTC)
hello you can i be your friend XD

seeing that you're going to be kind of のんびり-ing through third year, you should really get this journal back into the business. i can be your manager :Db
